If you want reassurance that 2018 won’t be that bad or that eventful, read elsewhere. If you’d like to know the honest astrology forecast for the year ahead, keep reading – but be prepared that 2018 isn’t going to be an easy year.

I try to state that in the most neutral way possible. Tornadoes and hurricanes are a fact of life. If a meteorologist tells you a life threatening storm is headed your way, you don’t blame the messenger or call them “being too negative”. You either heed the warning and prepare accordingly, armed with the data you need to stay safe… or you choose to ignore it and risk safety.

The following predictive astrology for 2018 should be seen through that lens. The Sun will shine as always, but you should know the space weather changes frequently, unpredictably and will be a shock to the systems of many.

Saturn will change signs for the first time in three years. Uranus and Chiron will change signs for the first time in seven years. The astrological configurations of the past decade are no more, replaced by new ones sustaining into the next decade. In many, many areas of life we are starting again from square one. In unfamiliar territory, expect your senses and equilibrium to be thrown off during the adjustment period.

Here’s what you need to know about the astrology of 2018:

Saturn In Capricorn

Having already written about what to expect from Jupiter in Scorpio, I’ll get into Saturn in Capricorn. Saturn will ingress into the sign it rules on December 19th, 2017, and stay in domicile until December 2020. I’ve done a post musing on the ways one could look at this transit working at the personal level.

On the larger scale, Saturn in Capricorn will have a sort of “instant karma” cause-and-effect, er, effect on government and institutions. Capricorn is concerned at the mundane level with such things as infrastructure (political, business, also geographical), status, reputation, the ethics of politics and business. Saturn is a cold, restrictive, austere planet and in the sign it rules we will notice a cycle of slowed growth, diminished returns, severe realizations and frequent obstacles and hardships.

When I say it will feel a bit like “instant karma”, I mean Saturn in Capricorn doesn’t much care for kicking the can down the road, procrastination or shirking of responsibility. If it is wrong, or is headed on the wrong path, it will not only be noticed and felt sooner rather than later but will also be inescapable in many circumstances.

The “Great American Eclipse”, Remixed

I did an entire series on The Great American Eclipse and predicted it would cause the natural disasters America seen shortly after, such as Hurricane Harvey. Please re-read that series, since we will be revisiting that eclipse season in 2018.

January 31st, 2018 will see a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse at 11 degrees Leo, opposing the August 7th, 2017 FMLE at 15 degrees Aquarius. In much tighter orb, the New Moon Solar Eclipse at 27 degrees Aquarius of February 15th, 2018 will oppose the “Great American Eclipse” that was at 28 degrees Leo on August 21st, 2017. In short, we start off 2018 by stirring the Hornets Nest yet again that was agitated in August 2017. Think of it as seeing the same thing from the opposite perspective.

That perspective means not only receiving new insight into the personal matters that resulted from the eclipses, but also new information about the way politics and business were impacted.

2018 has five eclipses in total; also included are a New Moon Solar Eclipse at 20 degrees Cancer on July 12th, a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse at 4 degrees Aquarius on July 27th and a New Moon Solar Eclipse at 18 degrees Leo on August 11th. As we seen in August 2017, eclipses on the Leo/Aquarius axis challenge our head/heart axis in definitive ways.

Chiron In Aries

The last time Chiron was in Aries was 1968 until 1976. The beginning of the end of the seemingly neverending Vietnam War. Soldiers who thought they had signed up to do the right thing were spiritually and psychically broken from the severe disillusionment (Pisces). Insults added to injury (Chiron) upon returning home, spit on by fellow people and shit on by the government and politicians who’d sent them there.

Aries is a martial, agressive sign of the individual, the ego, the life force. Chiron hurts, tries to heal, but typically heals wounds in ways most find unpalatable or uncool or un-PC or radical. The last time we had Chiron in Aries we saw the American Indian Movement, the rise of the Black Panthers, the Watergate scandal, and scores of wounded military personnel angry and bitter and in need of channeling their righteous rage.

Can anyone see any parallels at all between that time and now?

Chiron enters Aries April 17th, 2018 and stays there until September 25th, 2018, when retrograde motion puts Chiron temporarily back in Pisces. (Chiron re-enters Aries February 18th, 2019 and thereafter will remain in Aries until 2026).

Though we only experience Chiron in Aries for a brief period in 2018, best believe it is a big deal. Aries is ruled by war god Mars, and during Chiron’s dip into Aries Mars will be retrograde, i.e. repressed anger boiling over. Mars retrogrades at 9 degrees Aquarius on June 26th, 2018 and the retrograde ends August 27th, 2018 at 28 degrees Capricorn. Capricorn, as you’ve read in previous paragraphs, is concerned with political structure. Mars was in Aquarius during the last Presidential election; Mars retrograde in 2018 will revisit the raw feelings experienced by so many people of all persuasions during that election.

So, Chiron in Aries in 2018 will be the wounded fuel thrown on the fire raging at the perpetrators of war, being fought by those hurt from the various civil and global wars. And with Saturn in Capricorn insisting karma be met sooner than later.

Let’s be clear: 2018 has more potential than usual for violence. Keep safety always in mind.

Uranus In Taurus

Like Chiron, Uranus will change signs in 2018 and due to retrograde motion will only be in its new sign temporarily. Uranus enters Taurus May 15th, 2018 until November 6th, 2018. (Uranus re-enters Taurus March 6th, 2019 and stays there until 2025).

Uranus at the neutral level turns things on their head. The positive manifestation of this would be for the purposes of freedom and liberation; the negative would be chaos for its own sake. Uranus is incredibly uncomfortable in earthy fixed sign Taurus, so unfortunately we’ll be dealing more with the chaotic for its own sake side.

Taurus is the earth, the body. It is agriculture, food, shelter, resources, tangibles,  money, banks. All of which will be subject to chaos. The last time we had Uranus in Taurus we had the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. I know people will read this and think it’s too dramatic or overblown. Again I say: do you want to know the storm is coming or do you want to wish it away?

Uranus in Taurus in 2018 won’t show everything it’s capable of in the short time we have it. It will be a potent foreshadowing of the shape of things to come. So, the changes in money, food, agriculture and so on that you witness over the next year are not aberrant blips on the radar. Pay attention!

As I’ve pointed out, eclipses can predict natural disasters. Saturn in an earth sign related to structure, and Uranus in an earth sign creating agricultural upheaval looks to me like we should prepare for Mother Nature to start showing her wrath. Check out this article with the science behind why 2018 should see a dramatic increase in earthquakes. The astrology supports this theory.

There’s much more to say on this than what I’m trying to summarize here, so stay tuned…

Mars & Venus Both Retrograde, AKA Is All Really Fair In Love & War?

With the exception of the eclipses, so far I’ve covered trends more likely to manifest in larger arenas and then trickle down to the individual. Venus and Mars are “personal” planets and affect the individual first. Both Venus and Mars will experience retrogrades in 2018, and the respective planets of love and war and of female and male are going to be a bit pissed off.

I’ve discussed Mars retrograde in terms of contributing to civil unrest. In our personal lives, the Mars retrograde will be a time of reclaiming energy and power for ourselves, via the process of working backwards from the start of when we felt we had our energy and power hijacked.

Venus retrogrades at 10 degrees Scorpio on October 5th, 2018, until November 16th, 2018 when Venus turns direct at 25 degrees Libra. Venus is in domicile in Libra and in detriment in Scorpio. Venus retrogrades are a time of disconnecting from the love and relationship and beauty and money standards of the whole, to remind ourselves of what these things mean to us in our hearts and souls. Here again we work backwards from a place of feeling our ideals are wrong, ugly, painful etc. to a place where we find the beauty within.

There will be a lot of external ugliness in the world in 2018. Venus retrograde will ask: Where is there still love?

More interestingly, Chiron in Aries will deal specifically with the wounded Man, loathed and/or emasculated. Jupiter in Scorpio is doing a fine job of drawing attention towards abuse of power against all people but also specifically against women. The male and female planets turning our gazes inward in 2018 looks like a time when we need to take a step back – personally and collectively – and look at what we’re doing to each other, how to heal and love each other again.

(Read here for full retrograde details, including the retrograde shadow periods.)

The Astrology Of Revolution Will Continue…

In summary, we experience a major turn cycle in money, business, agriculture, food, war, civil unrest, and politics in the same year, all while trying to adjust our most intimate lives accordingly. Again, please try to not think of this in terms of “good” or “bad”, as that’s not only arbitrary but ineffective and immature. You can try to fight this, but that’s like trying to fight how history has always been made. What will be will be. You have read this far, which means you’re more prepared than most. Plan ahead for the storms headed your way, avoid falling into the paths of destruction and you’ll find yourself on higher ground.

But the need to act will come.

2019 through 2024 are years of tremendous revolt and upheaval, 2018 is only the year that events set the revolutionary cycle in motion. These are not short term trends we will see, they are bridges to other bridges that lead to the bridges of a new world.

  1. And I was hoping 2018 might turn out to be a better year for me. 🙂 Doesn’t sound very optimistic now. 😀
Still, better to know in advance than not.

    1. Keep in mind the way it affects people is different than how it affects the world. Plenty of people will do just fine and some are embracing the potential for change…
