Even the most casual observer of the Moon’s cycles will notice an increase in dream frequency, intensity, and message around the New and Full Moons and especially at eclipses. The Moon is the light of the night world and thus the conduit of dreams; astrologically, there are certain lunations more prone than others to delivering cinematic quality dreams rich in meaning. Knowing the timing of such lunations by watching Gilded Splinters Astrology for lunar posts tagged “dreams” and utilizing the power of the Psalms as a guided meditation can set you on a path of turning dreams into full visions.
Firstly, you should know what goes into lunations that makes some more dream-inducing than others. Full or New Moons or eclipses in the water signs of Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces are definitely more dream-inducing than lunations in other signs. However, eclipses in any sign provoke intense dream activity. Any New or Full Moon that makes strong aspects to Uranus, Neptune or Pluto invariably produces active dream states.
Lunations involving strong aspects to Mars or Uranus typically create disruptive sleep and insomnia, which can either inhibit or facilitate dream activity depending on your natural sleep and dream patterns.
The planet Mercury in ye olden times was considered a psychopomp, or an entity that escorted the newly deceased into the afterlife. Mercury was the only entity who could travel between all realms as a messenger of the gods, which is why in astrology we still consider Mercury to be the planet of communications. Mercury was also the entity that delivered dreams to sleeping humans. Since Mercury takes on the role of medium, depending on other aspects involved a lunation with a tight aspect to Mercury typically facilitates dreams with powerful messages and clear insights.
(Mercury travels fairly close to the Sun, so you’ll see Mercury frequently involved in lunations but only very close orbs are useful for the purpose of this article.)
Regardless of what is going on at any given New or Full Moon or eclipse, if the event takes place in your 3rd, 4th, 8th, 9th, or 12th house then it can still be an eventful dream event. (Read here to learn how to find lunar cycles in your chart.)
As far as being born with a propensity for psychic phenomena via dreams, it’s all about the person’s natal/birth Moon and is most common in those with the same qualities as listed above: Moon in the 3rd, 4th, 8th, 9th or 12th house; the sign of Cancer ruling those houses; strong aspects between the Moon and Mercury, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and/or Chiron.
That said, now that we know who is most prone to psychic dreams and which times are more fruitful for producing them, we can utilize this information for guiding vivid dreams into clear visions. Really, using any of your favorite reliable guided meditation methods at these lunations tagged “dreams” will work. But, as the title of this post implies, my method involves using two of the Psalms.
Firstly, a Psalm to reduce anxiety, restless, insomnia and anything else that would interfere with a calm sleep. I’m a chronic insomnia sufferer (though recent nightly use of CW Hemp Oil has helped a lot) and can say this Psalm does help at anytime for a more restful sleep. That’s when I actually remember to use it…
Psalms 4:8 :
“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep; for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.“
That’s the one to use to create the right environment. The Psalm you’ll need for the visions is Psalms 42:7-8 :
“Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. Yet the Lord will command His loving-kindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me.“
The “song” that will be with you in the night are the whispers of divine messages. If I’m utilizing a certain lunation for the purpose of clear psychic dream/vision states I’ll use both Psalms, alternating between reciting each one in my head from memory until I fall asleep.
However, my natal Moon meets the criteria above and dream-visions come naturally to me anyway, whether I ask for them or not.
