Once a year in the summertime we experience a New Moon in Cancer, the sign of the zodiac ruled by the Moon itself. This year’s New Moon is at 2 degrees Cancer, June 23rd, 9:31 PM CST. Besides the conjunction to the Sun in Cancer, this New Moon will be applying to a conjunction to Mercury at 5 degrees Cancer, separating from a square to Chiron at 28 degrees Pisces and separating from a sextile to Uranus at 27 degrees Aries. The separating aspects indicate some explosive discovery has taken place leading up to the New Moon where it will be heard and seen courtesy of the conjunction to Mercury.
The “discovery” in question can be global and/or individual. As Cancer is ruled by the Moon, it is familiar with the cycles of life that ebb and flow; on a mundane level this usually points to history repeating itself, patterns that were thought to have gone away re-emerging.
Both Uranus and Chiron each in their own way are associated with flashes of brilliance and genius, so I don’t think any sudden re-emerging of forgotten or dormant cycles is necessarily cause for concern. If anything, this New Moon could very well be presenting a key to unlocking the deeper meanings or reasons behind why some cycles repeat themselves and why some don’t. It isn’t a disruptive lunation but does require mental flexibility if one is to understand some of the odd events.
Don’t be surprised to experience deja vu here, particularly in areas of life related to the house of your natal/birth chart that you’ll find this New Moon (the house of your chart that starts in Cancer).
Mantra: “There are only patterns, patterns on top of patterns, patterns that affect other patterns. Patterns hidden by patterns. Patterns within patterns. If you watch close, history does nothing but repeat itself. What we call chaos is just patterns we haven’t recognized. What we call random is just patterns we can’t decipher. What we can’t understand we call nonsense.” – Chuck Palahniuk
